The eye without memory

Everything is letteral,
the blank white mist this morning,
horizon-wide, floating between sill and blindstop
the tree cover of my waking, censored vision.
Compare these same milky ribbons among high fir
in my immemorial, immortal childhood,
where pattern hid in plain sight like a child,
with eyes closed,
not public like weather but secret like banked fog;
the snake is made first, before Eye
who is only composed at the last minute
