Conversation With Red Ink

Pretend you’ve crossed out every word.
Pretend you spent half your life doing it.
Pretend the other you spent writing.
What will you do if you can’t
divide perfectly in two?

Midnight Mass

Bottle caps why in the icebox
do you turn a quarter turn
to the left

Why pluck a different note each
and then runs out of breath

Like a jazz band of two seconds
in the dark and almost frozen
