The stench of burning
flesh—of sulfur,
soured milk, seared carrion.

Crematoriums
incinerate
bodies at five hundred

degrees Celsius.
Still, it takes hours
for a corpse to reduce

to bone. In these streets,
men set ablaze
will shriek and moan for days.
