you don’t have to be good – mary oliver
it’s okay to hate god today – rachel mckibbens

it’s okay to stay in bed all day
you don’t have to wash your hair
it’s okay to wear your blankets like a gown to the gala of your bathroom
you don’t have to smile at strangers on the train
it’s okay to smile but
you don’t have to
it’s okay to shut down 5th avenue with only the sound of your voice
you don’t have to set yourself aflame
it’s okay to set yourself aflame
you don’t have to weep like a wound praying
it’s okay to call everyone who ever loved you stupid
you don’t have to survive but
it’s okay to
you don’t have to paint your own protest sign
it’s okay to despise every police
you don’t have to claw at the edge of reason for reprieve
it’s okay to make a hole in the dry-wall with your head
you don’t have to love everything dead
it’s okay to organize your friends
you don’t have to call them
it’s okay to eat every potato chip
you don’t have to grow tragic plastic wings
it’s okay to rage & rag & laugh & talk shit
you don’t have to only dream in metal fists
it’s okay to resist
you have to do this
