Ora John Reuter

    I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Skalny Center in the Department of Political Science at the University of Rochester.
  I also hold an appointment as Senior Researcher at the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.  In 2011-12 I was post-doctoral fellow at the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies at Miami University and Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at Miami University. In 2010-11 I was a post-doctoral fellow at Columbia University's Harriman Institute.  I defended my doctoral dissertation in the Department of Political Science at Emory University in August 2010. 
    My research is in the areas of comparative politics, comparative political institutions, comparative political economy, democratization, political parties, democratic accountability, elections, bureaucracy,  authoritarian regimes, the politics of economic development, and Russia and the former Soviet Union.  I am currently working on a book manuscript
that examines the emergence of dominant parties in non-democracies.   Other current research examines authoritarian elections, the political economy of development in hybrid regimes, electoral accountability, voter mobilization in the workplace, social protest, bureaucratic quality, and opposition coordination under dictatorship.
