Senior Gingrich Campaign Staffers Demanded Gingrich End Films and Books: ‘We Didn’t Sign Up to Be Hucksters’

ABC News' Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) reports:

ABC News has learned that one of the major issues between former Speaker Newt Gingrich and his (now former) senior campaign staff revolves around the myriad projects he and his wife Callista work on, which staffers describe as a constant distraction from the campaign.

Senior staffers demanded that Gingrich focus on pressing the flesh and fundraising and stop touring the country promoting film projects with his wife. At one point Gingrich was so focused on film premiers and book signings, one senior staffer emailed the team: "We didn’t sign up to be hucksters for products for sale"

But sources say Callista controls the schedule. They say she refused to allow the candidate to attend a Memorial Day Weekend parade in key early primary state South Carolina unless a film screening was set up in the state.

South Carolina consultant Katon Dawson was pushing hard for the candidate to attend the parade, but the film screening couldn’t be set up.

So the couple stayed in Washington DC and attended the opera at the Kennedy Center on May 27.  Some senior staffers laughed: the opera was Don Pasquale — a comedy about an old wealthy man’s romantic life.

The senior staffers didn’t understand the need for the two to spend the time together that night, instead of having him campaign, given that the couple was about to go on an extended luxury cruise.

"His spouse has demands on his time that are not practical for a candidate running for president," said one former senior staffer.

But does he know how to tweet?

I’m going to take a moment to point out that if you listen to the GOP and the libertarians, turning a profit is the basis of their political and personal philosophy. I don’t know why the Gingrich people would be surprised he was trying to turn campaigning into a money making venture. It seems pretty naive of them.

Meanwhile Weiner tweeted to a 17 year old Delaware girl. Police went to talk to her.

That should give us some idea of how a Gingrich “presidency” would be run.

Sounds like Mrs Gingrich is the only one that realizes he has less chance of getting elected than John Edwards

Placing all GOP members in one generic group with Gingrich, who is no longer supported by the vast majority of Repubs, is like well…saying all Dems are twitters err tweeters……………

Meanwhile, the Democrats seem determined to allow Anthony Weiner to remain in congress as the face of their party.

I continue to be absolutely dumb-founded at how some people are in the running for becoming one of the most powerful people in the world. Yikes ! How can voters be that low-information? It is stunning.

Can you imagine Palin & Gingrich as pres and vice-pres?! My opinion is that neither wants the position; they are amassing a nice, tidy, not-so-little nest-egg with which to retire. I don’t think either one has the commitment or the energy to go through an entire campaign, let alone take on the grueling 24/7 demands of those offices.

As a long time fan of Newt, I hate to say it, but I think he’s slipped a cog. It’s clear to me that he shot himself in the foot (head) with the comments on the Ryan budget, and it has just gone downhill from there.

sounds like gingrich is trying to emulate obuma…travel, party, etc.

The best predictive model of both Gingrich and Palin is that of political grifters.

Scammer Newt got scammed. He has held contests for people who own business’ and then when they win his phoney contest..they have to pay him anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000to get your prize,

who are the people with more money than sense who throw it away on these candidates?

Just wait until Mrs. Gingrich #3 gets sick and has to go to the hospital… Will she end up divorced like the others?

Like hell they didn’t. Someone tell those geniuses the parable about the frog who ferries the scorpion halfway across the river.

Callista has to spend all the time she can with Newt because once she grows old, gets sick, or he simply grows weary of her, he’ll trade up to another younger slut ready to have an affair with a married man.

The Republican way is all about the money… helping the wealthy get more of it at the expense of the middle class… so it isn’t surprising that Newt would be looking out for his bottom line above all else.

Seems Newt has all the “Expert” advise he can stand!!
Wife #3 and Katon Dawson another Hope-to-be-political Hack….
All three are real Losers.
