Palin: Obama's "Death Panel" Could Kill My Down Syndrome Baby

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/07/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:50 PM ET

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has laid pretty low since resigning. But on her Facebook page, Palin suggested Friday that President Obama's health care plan might kill her child.

Via Talking Points Memo:

As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we're saying not just no, but hell no!

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president's health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, "Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth." Let's stop and think and make our voices heard before it's too late.

Palin included a video of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), another fierce and hyperbolic critic of the president, saying Obama's plan would mean depriving senior citizens and disabled people of proper care. Watch:

Bachmann has described her opposition to reform as "like having a mother bear protecting her little cubs, and she's seeing that she has to move heaven and earth to get her child what her child needs."

Read the medical literature. You'll see why she is concerned. The medical literature is repeat with articles noting a Downs baby should be aborted due to the societal costs. Parker et al propose universal "fetal analysis" to reduce societal costs.

If you want to live your life past wellness then do so. Some of us would like the option to end our life with dignity and peace. Not more pain, more suffering and more misery for everyone involved.

I think too many of us want to live forever. It's a stress on everyone and everything around us. Taking care of overly elderly people who contribute nothing to society is a massive drain on us all.

Therefore, I will be the first to offer myself when I can no longer live on my own, through my own means and ways to give my life freely to the other side. But, the government, insurance companies and everyone else tells me it's wrong and that I should continue on in spite of the stresses it brings to everyone and everything I am in contact with.

I am all for living to a ripe old age. I want to. But, I won't have myself waited on hand and foot by anyone, god forbid, my family. I don't want the stress on them. I don't want the resource drain on the wrold. I want them and everyone else to live their lives freely and happily with the memories they've shared with me.

Why can't I be afforded the RIGHT to end my life when I can no longer go on and why does American society see Euthanasia as a bane? And why do we feel the need to go on long past our usefulness?

"Sarah's" baby? NO, I don't THINK so, Ms. Palin.

Sarah Palin was right. The democrats were caught red handed. So they quietly removed the DEATH PANELS from Obama's socialized health care bill.

Just remember: Obama has 3-1/2 more years to go. He will sneak it into the next 10,000 page omnibus spending bill containing TRILLIONS in deficit expenditures, where you will never find it.

"The democrats were caught red handed. So they quietly removed the DEATH PANELS.."

Really? Just how was this feat accomplished? Obama sent his Travel Back in Time Czar to somehow wipe out the relevant "death panel" language from every version of the multiple bills being circulated in print, on the Web, via email? Numerous people/media outlets have stated there exists no such provision in any of the bills. If you have an original copy that you managed to save from annilhilation with this language intact, please post it so we can all see what we so narrowly escaped.

How much to you make a year - because had McCain gotten in, you'd need to make at least $625,000 a year to get a tax break incentative. And if you're making that much, you are not peniless.

Here's a thought - go live in the woods and don't pay taxes. You'd love that ! Along with not paying taxes, though, it does mean no roads, no electricity, no hospitals, no schools, no anything for you - but that's what you want, so go for it !

She at first appears to be a cute rovian fear monger.

But considering the Couric interview, quiting her job, and her paranoid death squad she really seems to be backward, uneducated, and incapable of understanding anything more complex than her appearence.

To Euthanize the mentally disabled is barbaric but it would slim the ranks of the Republican party by 2/3rds.....

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. And then, they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up." Pastor Marin Niemoeller (1891-1984)

If you like the plan so much, then you pay for it and leave me alone!

Side-stepping to the "Birthers" issues - Sarah, may we NOW see a copy of Trig's never produced birht certificate? May we have a statement from the Dr. who delivered him???

"level of productivity in society"
stop insulting those with down syndrome,
worry about how low your level of productivity is.
ignorance need not be a terminal condition..........

Oh yes, as IF that's her child. Not.

Palin does not care WHAT she says (she doesn't understand most of it anyway), she just wants to get in the news. This is the way it's going to be for years, folks.
07:09 AM on 08/11/2009
Does anyone know who actually writes these Twitter posts for Palin? She is far too inarticulate to have written this herself, and I'm sure she has no idea who George Orwell was, much less what "Orwellian" means.

This latest debacle was quintessential Palin - Palin at her most exquisite. As always, it starts with a lie (the existence of a group of people who decide who gets health coverage within Obama's health care plan). Inherent within this lie is a malicious scare tactic which is used to prey on the ignorant (call those groups bureaucratic "Death Panels" who decide who lives and who dies based on their usefulness to society). Add in the abusive injection of her special needs child to make a cheap political point. And top it all off with a moral absolutist, "holier than thou" judgment that the heath care plan (and Obama by extension) is evil.

FYI -- As we know Palin is now recanting her "death panel" remarks. That must mean that someone has tipped off Meg Stapleton that there's NOTHING in proposed legislation to warrant remarks even remotely like hers. (Of course Palin might have gotten her ideas from Michelle Bachmann who doesn't read pending legislation either.)

Since we know that Palin reads "evewrything that's in front of me", maybe this rating of "Pants on Fire" from PolitiFact , the Pulitzer- prize-winning Web site that ranks the truthfulness of politicians might have influenced her sudden, out-of-character call for civility: http://community.adn.com/adn/node/142866

Boy, that grandson of hers Trig, the downs syndrome child, sure is used politically ALOT. I just hope he is getting the intensive early intervention he needs. Generally these kids need a lot of therapy-hearing, speech and physical. I realy hope he is getting that. Isn't it a mandate? It should be!

Sarah believes that any mandates trample Alaskans' wild and free spirit so she won't be seeking any early intervention funded by the feds, you betcha.

Just can't wait to see the continued "input" from Sarah Palin. Obviously, as Governor, she had an agenda other than what she was elected for and now without that weight on her shoulder she will throw out some comment that has no merit, no thought, no value except to spread fabricated truth.
Ms. Palin sets the stage for a very shallow democratic debate on any issue. She imposes her rather unusual interests only to her "party" rather than stimulate a constructive debate with pears whom all could offer significate conversation for the good of all. Talk about self absorbing. I'd love to have a "debate" between people, not parties and intelligant conversation that is the true democratic freedom we Americans have. Ms. Palin promotes rage in her cirlce and eliminates other. Some leaders are encouraging compromise and others (Palin) encourage division. Alaska is lucky you have stepped out of office.
